Tom Watson Consulting is a sole proprietorship focusing on the creation of innovative solutions to customer needs for laser-based solutions. Tom’s philosophy is “do it right, do it once.”
Tom is a Technology Development Professional with over 25 years industrial experience in the creation of innovative solutions to customer needs for laser-based solutions. With 30 patents and more than 100 technical publications, Tom has established a reputation as a technology leader.
Tom earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics in 1983, under the guidance of Professor Curt Wittig at the University of Southern California. His doctoral studies focused on spectroscopic detection of gas phase chemical reaction by-products.
Upon graduation, Tom moved to Hughes Aircraft Company where he specialized in the development of compact Pulsed Carbon Dioxide lasers for Range-finding and Chemical Defense. Tom’s work was instrumental in enabling Hughes to win follow-on contracts for related programs.
In 1993, Tom joined Cymer Incorporated, the world leader in excimer lasers for microlithography. At Cymer, Tom led several key successful product development efforts. He also played a key role in strengthening the company’s engineering infrastructure, developing and implementing key process improvements, establishing a new department and turning around the performance of another department.

• Strong working knowledge of the Product Development process, from concept to obsolescence.
